Thomas Romm is an architect and the initiator of BauKarussell, a cooperative for Social Urban Mining. He works on value-creation concepts for a circular economy in construction, which goes beyond raw materials. Circularity in building starts with urban planning, such as the management of municipal land, including Vienna’s common practice of “building rights” (Baurecht), which requires land to be returned. Managing existing building stock, aiming for durability, is of utmost importance. When dismantling is necessary, however, buildings slated for demolition can serve as urban mines, providing valuable resources and building components. BauKarussell performs this intricate work in collaboration with social enterprises, combining environmental protection with employment and skills development to generate added value in the resource-oriented deconstruction of buildings.

For 20 years, Thomas Buchsteiner has been an expert in the field of ventilated curtain wall facades. After completing his training as a master carpenter, he began his career as a designer and project manager in the glass and metal industry. His extensive expertise in various materials led him to numerous leadership roles, from prototype manufacturing in the automotive industry to façade construction, where he laid the foundation for his current ventilated facades expertise.

Thomas Buchsteiner has gained experience in all aspects of façade construction, from installation and cost estimation to design and project management. With his broad expertise, he successfully built a company for its owner. Later, he took on a new role as a partner and managing director at a company specializing in the development, production, and specialized planning of substructures and various cladding materials.

From the day he first encountered ventilated facades, he has developed innovative systems for both new constructions and renovation projects in various roles, whether as a contractor or system supplier, with a focus on resource conservation and optimization. His main target groups included architects, builders, and craftsmen. His approach is to think and work holistically, collaborating with experts to create added value for customers. His goal is to empower clients through services and thereby offer a unique service in the market.

Teresa Adler is a presenter, mental coach, and speaker. “Our feet move when the heart is moved.” Moving hearts is her passion. As a former spokesperson for a large corporation, she knows what it takes to ignite passions and set things in motion. Balancing humor and depth, she challenges her audience to adopt fresh perspectives on familiar topics.
